Driftwood MMC - Year 1 - Winter - Topsfield

I decided I wanted to play the Topsfield family next, our new yeoman farmers! Belsante is a natural cook, so I decided she might sell pies for some extra cash in the winter. She also takes a job as a Scullery Maid. (Hence her appearing with the soilders! I jumped around a bit while playing.)

Rosamund isn’t that interested in farming, and of course there’s nothing to harvest in the winter! So she picks up a job in the crinimal career as a swindler. She has the “kleptomaniac” trait, so it felt fitting! Here she is swindling poor Michael Rudhall, who is already dirt poor :’(

As well as swindling people, Rosamond also does a little flower arranging. We don’t unlock florists until the settlement reaches Village status… but I forgot about that :’) so we’ll say she can’t run an actual business until then.

Rosamond’s money-making ambitions do not stop there - like soooo many of this settlement's ladies she wants to marry rich. Bermund isn’t exactly rich, but he’s a windower whose son will be old enough to take over the beekeeping business soon, so he’s an option

Bermund was showing some potential, helping out with the crops, when Belsante suddenley had a heart attack and died! Noooo, I really liked her :(

Rosamond passes out on the ground in shock…

The Abbess at the foundling home, Branwyne, passes by, and seems to be continuing the tradition of extremely agressive clergywomen…

Heartbroken over her mother’s death, Rosamond heads to the tavern the next day, where she finds Bertrand and invites him back to her cottage.

Things between them progress quickly. It’s maybe not the smartest move, but Rosamond isn’t really thinking straight, she’s just looking for comfort…

When Bertrand’s father comes by though, angry at his son for abandoning his work at home (and miffed with him for flirting with his sweetheart, Esther), Rosamond is thrilled. A family feud! Maybe she can take advantage of it somehow…

At the end of the season, Rosamond brings home a promotion and is just about able to afford her taxes.

I am wondering about lowering rent for yeomen honestly, as I feel like since they own their own farms they shouldn't even really be paying "rent" as such? I dunno, I’ll think about overhauling the MCC tax system in the spring.
