Driftwood MMC - Year 1 - Winter - Men-at-Arms

In Driftwood, we have some new faces at the barracks!

Brian Fromond (the blonde man) is a pleasure sim, but he’s no slacker. He’s a bit of a perfectionist and want to make sure his skills on the battlefield are perfect.

Wulfgar Garard is the one with dreads. He’s not really a dedicated fighter (he considers himself more of a lover), but enjoys army life as an excuse to travel around and meet women.

Andrew Twarby (looking thoughtful) is also a bit of a romantic. He’s very interested in siege engineering, too, but he lacks social skills.

Finally, he have Avery London, with the long brown hair on the far left. Sociable and funny, he’s a likable guy and makes friends with the others quickly.

Nigel visits the barracks ostensibly to ask about work, but I think he maybe wanted to scope out the new guys with Primrose :D

Belsante Topsfield has a job in domestic service, so I decided she could come work at the barracks as a cook/maid. In theory an elder should prove less of a “distraction” for the soilders, although it’s not like sims ever seem to care about age, so who knows!

She gets along fabulously with Andrew, but clashes right away with Elliot. He just left the barracks to live in the manor, but he’s not impressed with her! What happened to the tradition of making the newest recruit do the cleaning???

Shortly after arriving at the barracks, Avery decides army life is not for him! This is the second time this has happened, so he’ll be following in Lawrence Barker’s footsteps and becoming a chicken farmer. Here’s hoping he doesn’t meet the same tragic fate, as I fear the old house may be cursed :/

Sir Roberte recently struck a huge blow to the Advortonians, and got promoted to Lieutenant-General! So, I finally decided to give him his own tower bedroom, rather than having him sleep in the barracks with the rest.

It’s a huge promotion, but Sir Roberte is begining to feel his age, and yearns to spend time with his wife and young son, so he’s thinking about retirement…

Elliot still visits frequently. While he’s married into the gentry and is learning everything he can about managing the land, he still takes his military duties seriously! Plus, he misses his brother.

More promotions for the men - Nicholas has finally begun working harder now that there are new recruits around to potentially upstage him, and has become an engineer. Meanwhile, Reginald is being groomed to take over as leader of the barracks once Sir Roberte retires…

Merchant Sadie Bartly takes a liking to Wulfgar, and the feeling seems to be mutual!

However, Wulfgar has never really been a one-man sim! He’s equally charmed by Bryanna, the local midwife…

Wulfgar isn’t the only sim dating around - Brian follows his lead and asks Rose Rudhall on a date.

Soilders are meant to be “class fluid”, but I think they would not usually marry peasant girls willingly as it would mean volunteering for a lifetime of serfdom. Rose isn’t really looking for marriage though, she’s a romance sim just looking to have a good time.

As the round at the barracks comes to an end I decided to pull the trigger on retiring Sir Roberte and moving him out to live with his wife. My elders can die pretty suddenley and unexpectedly, so he should enjoy retirement while he has the chance!

This means Reginald Moore is now is charge of the barracks. The Moores have done quite well for themselves, marrying into the local gentry and attaining high positions in the military.
