Year 1 - Summer - Men at Arms

The old barracks up the hill are also officially in operation! Since Driftwood is right by the sea and has a river, I could see it being a tactically important spot where enemies overseas might land. So the military has a small pressence in the settlement.

The facilities aren’t anything too fancy, but they’re way more comfortable than anything the peasants get. In the Kingdom, military service is open to anyone. It can be a nice shortcut to a higher status if a sim doesn’t mind risking their life in battle!

The army arrives at the Military Barracks! They are led by Sir Roberte Mondegreen, Lord Lionel’s younger brother. Sir Roberte is often regarded as the “loser” brother, having never never married, or aquired an estate of his own. But Roberte loves his work and the thrill of battle, and is taking great delight in whipping his four recruits into fighting shape.

The villagers are curious about the soilders stationed here, and visit from time to time. The archery is especailly popular!

It’s not long, though, before one of the recruits decides army life is not the life for him. Lawrence Barker, the social butterfly of the group, quits after his very first day! I moved him out but am not completely decided on what I will do with him instead, yet. Maybe he can start his own household as a peasant?

Primrose stopped by, accompanied by her father. Notionally it was to see her dear uncle Roberte, but I think Primrose is probably curious about the army men, especially as she is expected to marry one of them eventually!

She struck up conversation with Elliot Moore, who joined up with his brother Reginald. Elliot’s on the shy side, but kind, brave, and ambitious. Could be a good match, when she’s older!

Very soon, its the recruits’ day off. They spend it at the village green and get more aquainted with Driftwood’s inhabitants.

Reginald and Nicholas didn’t seem like they’d have much in common initially (one’s a knowledge sim and one’s a pleasure sim), but whenever they had downtime they seemed to gravitate to each other.

Of the three soilders, I feel like Elliot might be the one to marry Primrose. He actually rolled a want to be friends with her, and as a popularirty sim they’d probably have good chemistry! (Although I am not playing with teen/adult romance atm so can’t confirm, haha.) Ultimately though her husband will be whoever gets the highest in the career while making a good impression on her parents.

By the end of the round, all three recruits had scored promotions to Sentry. Not bad, they still have a long way to go…
